Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte, Philippines |
A sandbar and a virgin island. A pure and magnificent white beach with crystal and emerald-colored seawater. An astronomical numbers of twinkling stars to watch at night in a peaceful paradise. How can I never forget these describing words I have built to delight the wonders of nature.
And that island was none other than, Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte. Of course, it is one of the 7,107 islands in the Philippines.
How to get to Kalanggaman Island
From Cebu City via Ormoc, Leyte to Palompon, Leyte

- Ride the ship for 2 hours.
- Go to the bus and van terminal once you get to Ormoc port.
- Ride a van to Palompon. P110 was the fare. Travel for 1-2 hours.
- Alight to the town center of Palompon.
- Then go to the Information/Tourism Office for registering and paying for rental boat to go to Kalanggaman Island.

Best time to go there
Philippines has two seasons, sunny and rainy days. From January to May, there is less rain fall. So these months are the best time to visit the island. Holidays, especially Holy Week, are not so good as there are a lot of tourists. If you are a type of person who enjoys tranquility or the peacefulness of the place, visit it on ordinary days.
*My roommate and I visited the place on the Election day in the Philippines. The people were so busy knowing who was winning the presidential position. That's why there were fewer people who traveled and we felt like we almost owned the island.
Best thing to do there
1. Snorkel in the clear water
2. Stargazing at night
What to see
1. The sandbar
2. Crystal clear water and the emerald green color of the sea
3. Fine white sand
4. No restaurants
5. rocks and coconut trees
6. in the early morning, you might see the dolphins
What to bring
1. food (packed or for charcoal grilling) as I mentioned there are no restaurants. Go to Palompon market first to buy food.
2. plastic to throw your garbage
3. drinking water
4. water for cleaning your body or your utensils and plates as the water there is with sand.
5. flashlights (if you plan to stay overnight though there is a solar-powered lampposts.
6. sun block
7. camera
8.
banig or mats and/or chairs
9. tent - for overnight stay or to change clothes
